COVID-19 vaccination recommendations for cancer patients

  • 26.07.2021

The Ministry of Health of Russia issued updated recommendations for Covid-19 vaccination.
The Gam-COVID-Vac vaccine (Sputnik V) for prevention of COVID-19 is recommended without additional restrictions for all cancer patients who have completed antitumor treatment, regardless of the initial stage and form of the disease. According to the recommendations, vaccination should be carried out no later than 14 days before the start of a surgical operation, if it is planned.

In addition, there are no restrictions on vaccination for patients undergoing long-term cyclic treatment, including hormonal therapy. Patients with oncohematological diseases should be vaccinated before or during treatment, provided that a stable level of lymphocytes is achieved.

When receiving potentially toxic treatment, cancer patients should be vaccinated during periods of least risk of hematological toxicity - two weeks before it or in the intervals between chemotherapy courses, in case of radiation therapy - before or after treatment.
