We and UN ECOSOC

We and UN ECOSOC

«The United Nations once dealt only with governments. But now we know that peace and prosperity cannot be achieved without partnerships involving governments, international organizations, the business community, and civil society. In today's world, we depend on each other.» Kofi Annan, UN Secretary General (1997-2006)

In 2003, in accordance with the decision of the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), Non-Commercial Partnership “Equal Right to Life” was granted a Special consultative status with ECOSOC.

Following the results of organization's activities, in 2021 a Special consultative status was successfully extended for the next 4 consequent years until 2025.

A special consultative status expands an international scale of organization's activities and opens opportunities to engage with ECOSOC and its subsidiary bodies, as well as with the United Nations Secretariat, programmes, funds and agencies in a number of ways. It also allows to influence decision-makers at the highest international level by delivering statements, participating in negotiations and holding side events at the UN.

As a non-profit organization with a special consultative status with UN ECOSOC, for many years we have been actively developing cooperation with the UN, WHO and the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC), taking part in various initiatives of these international organizations and representing a Russian society standpoint on the prevention and implementation of effective tools to reduce mortality from cancer, thereby contributing to the achievement of the third global UN Sustainable Development Goal on health.

United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)

In September 2015, all 193 Member States of the United Nations adopted the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development , a long-term plan for large-scale transformations aimed at achieving a better future for all nations — laying out a path over the next 15 years including 17 interrelated Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) which clearly define the world we want to see.

The Sustainable Development Agenda contains goals to eradicate poverty, conserve the planet's resources, ensure healthy lifestyles and promote well-being for all at all ages. Each of 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) contains a set of indicators to be achieved within 15 years. The 17 SDGs are integrated—they recognize that action in one area will affect outcomes in others, and that development must balance social, economic and environmental sustainability.

Multisectoral and rights-based approaches are essential to address inequalities and to build good health for all.

United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC)

The UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), established in accordance with the UN Charter on June 26, 1945, is one of the main bodies of the United Nations, which coordinates cooperation in the economic and social fields of the UN and its specialized agencies.

ECOSOC is central to the work of the United Nations system in relation to all three dimensions of sustainable development - economic, social and environmental, being a unifying platform for promoting integration and action for sustainable development.

Building on its coordination role within the UN system, ECOSOC is a gateway for UN partnership and participation by the rest of the world. It offers a unique global meeting point for productive dialogues among policymakers, academics, foundations, businesses and non-governmental organizations involved in the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
